At Newhills Primary school we believe that in order to learn effectively we need to be happy, fit and healthy. We are passionate about ensuring that all of our pupils and staff meet these characteristics and we have become a Health Promoting school in order to celebrate this.
Each Health Promoting school must work towards achieving three awards: Commited level, Commended level and Excellence level. Each award becomes progressively more challenging to acheive and Newhills are currently working towards Excellence Level.
The Health Committee has been organising a new Healthy Snack Challange for primary 1-7 which will begin in January and which wiill help us in working towards achieving our Excellence Award.
Health promotion in schools is not just about encouraging children and young people
to eat well and to exercise; it encompasses a much broader holistic approach. This
approach is called the 'whole school approach', which includes promoting the physical,
social, spiritual, mental and emotional wellbeing of all pupils and staff.
